We awoke to another gorgeous day in St Petersburg and decided to head off to see some of the city in the hope that we may return to some news of our luggage. We decided to have breakfast out...something we won't be doing again since St Petersburg is a very expensive city - 17 for one tea, one coffee, one orange juice and a croissant!!!! So, that will be the daily budget blown then!

Since we are already staying fairly central we headed out down Nevsky Prospekt...taking note of the interesting fashion style that many of the Russian ladies have here and first stop was The Church of the Ressurrection of Christ which was built in 1883 on the spot where Emperor Alexander 2nd was mortally wounded. It is for this reason that the church is often called The Church Built on Spilled Blood. It was badly damaged in the war and the work to restore it to it's original state began in 1972. So, history lesson over we will let the photos say it all. Next stop was the Hermitage Museum which is just massive and we walked for what felt like miles inside! It was overwhelming, but probably partly because it was packed with hundreds of tourists so we didn't spend as long here as we would have done otherwise. After a spot of lunch we headed back to the hostel with news of a phonecall to say that our luggage would be arriving later that day! We didn't want to get too excited until our luggage had arrived but no more than 10 mins later there was a knock on our door and yes, our rucksacks were here....oh happy days!!!

So with weary legs and enough sightseeing for one day we can rest up for now. Tomorrow we have a full day in St Petersburg before boarding the overnight train to Moscow.

Hello! Very glad the luggage problem is sorted out. St. Petersburg does look beautiful, particularly at this time of year, maybe not so much when it's minus 30 in winter. £17 for breakfast, makes The Wheatsheaf look jolly reasonable. Keep in touch, happy travelling.
