This weekend I am sure that I spent far too much money.  I seem to try and justify some of my purchases in the "I'll need that for when I travel" category.(like a digital camera)  But alas, that is still far off.

I started the weekend off by apartment hunting in the Bucktown section of Chicago.  This area is very nice.  It has that Chicago neighborhood feel with lots of interesting resturants and bars.  I should probably mention that I am around the corner from my favorite bar in the city...the Map Room.  However, I did not choose the apartment on that feature alone...that would just be silly (ahhem).  I looked at a few places in person and did tons of looking online.  The short story...I saw a lot of junk.  Once I saw this place...and the fact that other people were looking at it before me, I made a brash decission and put down a deposit after taking a look to secure the place.

That was my first purchase of the weekend.  The security deposit on Friday.  I went back the next day on Saturday to sign the lease and take a few measurement of the the place.  There are two draw backs of the place.  The first is that there is no central air...AC window units instead.  Which really isnt that big of a deal.  When I was in Lincoln Park...same setup.  The next thing is that the bedrooms are not very large.   12" X 6"6' to be exact.  However, I gave up long ago on the idea of having a big "suburban" type bedroom.  The 2 beedrooms are a typical size for the bucktown/wicker park neighborhood, and most of Chicago for that matter.  New build construction will have bigger bedrooms....but those type of units were not in my price range.

After taking some measurements, I walked to the Damen blue line stop and took my first official blue line CTA trip into the city.  It was quite enjoyable to be honest.  I got off at the washington St. stop.....Daley Plaza for the Turkish festival.  The plan was to meet some people at the festival....but I ran a little long with the whole apartment thingy.  By the time I got to the festival...the people I was to meet up with had left.  Despite that small set back, I walked around and took in the festival.

The Turkish Festival brought about my second purchase for the weekend.  A turkish tapestry for the wall, table, or anything else.  The fabric and pattern are amazingly beautiful. I like to think that I got a great deal on it too...worked the guy down to 30 dollars from 40.  Initially when I started to haggle with him....he claimed that the price was fixed and that no haggling could be done.  So, I pat myself on the back.  After taking in the festival...was kinda small since Daley plaza is not all that huge...I took the train back to Wicker Park/ Bucktown.  Walking back to where my car was parked, I stopped by a garage sale.  I bought a rug....and a microwave in anticipation for my move in.  The apartment has hardwood floors and no microwave.  The yard sale couldnt have worked out better...I also introduced myself to the girl and 2 guys selling things.  In a month they will be my new neighbors kinda....3 houses down.  Oh also, I was still in haggle mode i guess...and got the microwave and rug for...25 dollars.  The microwave is nice seemed as if they just got rid of it cause they bought a new stainless steel one...or somthing like that.  The people were nice and friendly...they handed me a flyer...and I told them I would keep an eye out for their lost kitty...pumpkin.

My final purchase...a digital camera on sunday.  Its a sony cyber shot....and this camera is amazing.  In fact, why am I writing when I could be playing with all its great features....

I will end by posting some pictures of the turkish tapestry and some randome pictures of my apartment.  (the old one....come July, in the one I am living in now)
