On the ferry from Greece we met a great young couple from Brazil (hi, Paula and Werner) who ended up traveling with us on the train and staying in the same hostel in Naples. We took the train for a half-hour trip to Pompei with them the next day. The weather was rainy, windy and COLD, but, hey, WE were in Pompei! Ha!
It was a HUGE site and very interesting to see the remains of the 35 hectare city. The buildings gave us a good idea of how the houses looked and what type of lifestyle they may have had when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD.
We also visited the Naples archeological museum the next day, to see mosaics and artifacts removed from the Pompei site over the years. Impressive!
