Firstly folks, our only work related news is that we have no news. But we are keeping the faith....

Right, the fellas get up first and play Lego and trains. I try and stop time and sleep and fail at this.  So I get up and get ready – managing to both leave on time and have breakfast.  This is winning.

We head to 'sing and move' playgroup.  This is Woody’s 3rd week at this group and he is getting to know the songs and seems to have clicked with a little girl.   Actually he gets on with the little girl, her brother, and their father and I think he is trying to sneak into their family.  Not on my watch Woody.

At the start of  ‘row, row, row your boat’ the teacher asks who has been on a boat before.  Woody says he hasn’t (although he has) but he tells them how his Grandma  went on a boat once and caught a hammer head shark and ate it.  This must have happened in the early 70’s and Mum mentioned it to Woody and he has pretty much talked about it every day since.  Playgroup was very impressed with Grandma’s antics.

We have a terrific time in this session and then we head into the brilliant playroom where Woody and the other kids play in the kitchen and the play dinosaurs.  It is a fantastic way to spend half an hour and all the children play very nicely together.

Next we go to ‘read and grow’  and the theme for today is ‘feelings’.  They read a story about a grumpy mouse and what happens to her day and how people respond to her when she is grumpy.  A nice little story for the little ones.  The children all really love the activities for the little ones.  Elwood again tells a story about Grandma and shows them one of her tricks where he moves his hand over his face revealing happy face and sad face.  The teacher is impressed and the whole class stops to do Grandma’s trick.   Woody is pretty pleased with this.

There are lots of activities to do with reading facial expressions, looking in the mirror, matching expressions with feelings – the kids really enjoy all of this and so clearly learn a lot.

There is a craft activity and the teacher encourages Woody to make a happy clown face to hang in Grandma’s room as a surprise for when she gets back.  Elwood agrees to do the craft, but he is insistent that he will only do a sad face because ‘I want grandma to know how sad I was when she was not here’.  Ouch!  So we make a very sad face that we will not be hanging in Grandma’s room.

Next we head home for lunch, and a quick bit of Lego.  Woody has a light lunch of meatballs and mashed potato and then we are out the door again.

Just down the street they run a little literacy class.  We have had a big morning so it is a little ambitious and I am a little nervous how Woody will find it.  He loves it from the second he arrives and he participates fully straight away.  Parents to not join in this one and I can hear him answering questions, contributing, and learning some letters.  Somehow he manages to squeeze in the story how Grandma caught and ate a hammerhead shark.  Grandma is becoming quite legendary on the Mum circuit in Southport.  Woody has a little bit of homework to do so we chat to the teacher about this and then we head home.

I have some lunch and Woody continues to play Lego.  Woody seems absolutely inspired by today’s morning of learning, especially the last session, and gets out all of his flashcards and sets himself activities like matching and running through the alphabet cards.  He also sits down and starts writing letters and has a great stab at writing the word lion.  He just seems so inspired by his day and he is just a sponge learning so much at the moment.  Noah and I are obviously insanely proud  and go in pretty hard on the positive reinforcement.  In fact, so much so that the other day Woody said ‘I am a child genius’.  After that, he licked the outside of the car door.....

The owner of the house is coming around this afternoon to do some more repairs so I wash yesterday’s dishes and fold an actual mountain of washing.  Woody plays with his Lego pretty happily.  When the owner arrives Woody pretty much stalks his around the place.  Woody is dying to get up on the roof and fabricates every reason possible to get up on the roof.  We do not let him – even we are not that irresponsible....

Next I head down to the preschool to join their parents fundraising meeting.  We have a good chat, we have some ideas and I have some prep for the next meeting to do.  Who would have thought that I would join a parent fundraising group?  Um, everybody?

On the way home I see a random figurine on a road sign.  So, once I get home we head back out to see the figure as this is just the sort of thing the fellas like.  It turns out  a figure of  Rey Mysterio from WWE guards the end of our street.  Brilliant.

Next Woody finishes off his dinners, has a bath, his books and is asleep in a heartbeat.  Noah and I reluctantly do our exercise video , and then he limps back to work and I limp into the kitchen to make a virtuous stir fry.

Noah continues to work and I blog.  And next I will organise some bits for tomorrow, internet banking and probably some emails too.

Good night lovely people.
