So we kick around the hotel room for a couple of hours. Sorting photos, uploading blog entry, playing Fireman Sam and making a zoo. Now this may seem like a strange thing to be doing when we have tickets to Disneyland but if we rush, rush, rush from the minute we wake up, we pay for it later when Elwood is broken.
The fellas play happily and I realise my computer is not working properly. Everything is very slow, and I cannot access the internet. So I have to work on Noah’s Mac which makes me simultaneously like I am drunk and have one hand tied behind my back. I miss my computer already as it appears I am completely dependent on it.
We check out slightly late, the boys take the car to the car park and I walk to Disneyland to get the stroller sorted. Weirdly, this works perfectly and we meet up at the gate about 30 minutes later and immediately start craving sugar
Elwood really wants to go on the finding Nemo submarine, so we walk there via Tomorrowland. As we pass through Buzz Lightyear’s Astroblasters queue is 10 minutes. I cannot believe it. I rush to the nearest Buzz themed Disney worker and ask if this is indeed true. Apparently, it is so we join the queue. We are on the ride in no time. Elwood is deadly serious about his mission, and there is concentration all over his face. Apparently, Zurg has been stealing all the batteries from toys to power his evil robots. It’s pretty serious. We need to laser zurg and the evil robots and pretty much save the entire universe. It is a big responsibility but we have seen Toy Story enough, so we are feeling pretty confident.
Turns out, we had every reason to feel confident. We nailed it. Noah went a bit crazy with the laser gun and was spinning our spaceship around and taking it all a tiny bit seriously for my liking, Elwood is slightly overwhelmed by everything going on, but surprising calm given his is so close to his nemesis, Zurg. Noah compares his and Elwood’s scores when he does not think I am looking, and then acts smug.
We visit the merchandise again and play with all the same things as yesterday. I remind Elwood he really wanted to see Nemo and then we are off again.
On the way, we book a time to ride Autopia and then get in the queue for Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. We somehow find time in inhale a massive bag of popcorn on the way.
So we wait in the Finding Nemo queue for about half an hour and then board the yellow submarine. The journey is brilliant and it is like being in a giant cartoon fish tank. And then we start on a Finding Nemo adventure
And then we feel smug to go straight onto the Autopia ride (cars on a track which sound like ride on lawn mowers). Elwood drives with a seriously I have only seen when battling Zurg. He loved it so much. Elwood truly owned that road today. Elwood chatted about what a great driver he is as we got off the ride, and we have a quick glimpse 13 years into the future.
Next we go back to Toon Town to call in on Mickey. Apparently lots of other people have the same idea and we wait for ages (4 muesli bars, 2 packets of raisins, and 1 packet of cheese fish). Elwood is stoked meet up with Mickey and asks Mickey if he remembers him from yesterday. He does. Result! They chat about the furniture in Mickey’s house and then Elwood asks where Minnie is. She is next door (they clearly like to keep their independence) so we high tail it to Minnie’s.
We queue some more, and wait whilst Minnie has a refreshment break. And then we get the front of the line, and Elwood does not want to see Minnie (he had not mentioned this previously). So Minnie gives Elwood her best cute mouse in a frock wave, and Elwood storms past her into her house. Noah apologises profusely to the mouse in a dress and heels, and chases after Woody into Minnie’s House. I watch on, glad no one knows I am with them!
Elwood is very tired now. We decide to go over the California Park and buy him a bear stuffed toy to make up for the absence of Brother Bear Characters. He tries to sleep on the way, but I will not let him as we need him to choose this toy. Elwood cannot believe his luck when we let him choose a giant bear and Noah and I cannot believe our own stupidity
We wander around the Pier and run into Woody and Elwood gets a pat on the head from his hero. We head to the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail and let Elwood run around in the fake Wilderness. It is brilliant. He needs a leg stretch and he is happy.
We decide to go back to the other park and see if you we can go on a ride before the parade. We find some food on the way. We walk through Critter Country and Elwood spots ‘The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh’ ride. We cannot believe he wants to go on this as he has always seen Winnie the Pooh as a bear for babies and much preferred more wild looking bears. So we are all abroad the honey-train bound for pooh-ville and we unexpectedly love it. So much so, we go on it twice. We briefly all love Winnie, but soon go back to our cynical ways.
We have about 30 minutes before the parade we chance it and try and go back on the Buzz Lightyear Astroblasters. Our luck is in, and we get in the ride. Elwood goes back into serious mission mode, and Noah’s competitive streak makes an appearance again.
We make it back to watch the parade and it is exactly the same as yesterday, but somehow we love it even more. Elwood has a dance and Noah and I do our maniacal grins.
And then that is it for us people, our Disneyland adventure is over. Such a wonderful experience, for us and Elwood and something Elwood is going to chat about for a very long time I suspect. And we welcome the new addition to our family, a giant Bear called Brother Bear.
So that is us for tonight. In the wrong hotel, in the wrong city, an expensive and empty room somewhere, we do not have the Mothership’s arrival details, we have no accommodation booked beyond tomorrow night, only some very sketchy plans of what to do with the Mothership, no idea what we are doing in Hawaii, and I have a broken computer.
The Disneyland magic wears off quite quickly, apparently. I just want to go back to Disneyland as these sorts of things do not happen on Mickey’s watch.
Good night everyone, please with us luck tomorrow.
