Where I stayed
Next stop, the ‘controversial’ Cahokia Mounds. They are controversial because we could not find them (as you will see – they are huge and impossible to miss!), and we could not agree on the best way to find them. Perhaps if we had looked out the window, and not just at sat nav we would have spotted the huge mounds which are the remains of a prehistoric Indian city. We made Elwood climb the biggest one, and then basically made him run around to tire him out. It did not work - he never seems to tire
Unfortunetely, the most memorable thing about the Cahokia Mounds for me, was the fact that Noah (frankly, a little shirty after we could not find the mounds) got out the car and walked straight into a pole. I am still laughing even as I type this. He even turned around and looked at the pole accusingly (without any irony) Elwood and I were laughing hysterically – I am not sure how much that helped...
After a detour to subway we were back to the big road, heading for Tennesse, with a car full of snacks and country music in our hearts.
Not ever so much to say about Kentucky, as we just drove through the corner of it on the way to our beloved Nashville. We all used the restrooms, they were clean, and Elwood commented on the fresh flowers. A nice touch in a public lavatory, I think you will agree. Elwood had a decent leg stretch and then back in the car with a bit of Zac Brown Band for Noah and I, and a movie for the little fella on the back seat.
After first heading to the wrong Super 8, we finally made it to our hotel around 7. Noah and Elwood went for a swim. I ordered and pasta, and we promptly all fell asleep before it arrived and were awoken by the delivery man. We tried to wake Elwood for food but failed. So Noah and I ate possibly the best pizza I have ever tasted, I conked out, and Noah stayed out doing photo type things. We are so so happy to be in Nashville. There is something very special about Nashville.
