A bus and a train took us to Venice today - about an hour all up.  Half an hour in a queue to get a tourist map and we were off. 

Venice was extremely crowded - the crowds can not be understated - but the weather was great.  My over-all verdict is that it was good to visit but I have no desire to ever go back.  It was dirty, rundown, smelly, expensive and crowded.
