Bumpy Roads and Hobbit Holes

Visit Klenske, Ink.
Today was a 'dia tipico' here in costa rica. hot, hot, and even more hot. we actually tried to sleep in today, but we just woke up around 6:30. Damn it. we had a nice breakfast and coffee delivered to our room and we ate breakfast on the porch, moving our table and chairs as the shade moved and the sun grew hotter. Our friends Seth and Denise came by to say goodbye before they went on to their next destination. We had to check out at noon, but stayed at the hotel until our bus came at 2:30. Didn't do much except lay in the sun, watch a lizard lay in the sun, and eat. man, life's hard!
The interbus arrived on time and off we went to san jose for the night, until our pick up in the morning. we're taking a small plane into the remote jungle and then hiking into our 'tent camp' (really a lodge with canvass rooms). The drive home was long, the roads were bumpy and curvy, and we were stuck in the back of the bus. Needless to say we felt a bit sick. At the rest stop we did see a large green parrot, and were able to get some good pictures. But enough about todays boring day on the road. Let's talk about last night. Last nights are always better. Perhaps one of those nights? Maybe, but nonetheless it was a blast. We again joined Seth and Denise for dinner and then went to a bar called 'the bat cave'. no batman, no robin, but the bar is actually built in a cave behind a hotel. But when we got there it was closed. They closed it early since there was nobody there. However, they opened the whole bar up for us four. And opening it is no small effort, the lights need to be turned on, the candles lit, the 80s music playing, and, most importantly, the fog machine going. To get into the bar you climb up a small step ladder and then go through a little wooden door, just like the one's the hobbits use in the Lord of the Rings. We ordered some drinks, and after a little convincing, got our bartender, , to start drinking too. He debated, 'ok', 'no i shouldn't', 'why not', 'no i might get in trouble' and finally settled on 'what the hell, tonight i am the manager. The funny thing is he looked like tom cruise and even had the glass flipping thing down. So once the bartender was drinking, we new the night was going to be good. We learned that the drinking age in costa rica is 18, but they start 'practicing' around 14. After several games of jenga, Kara broke out some cards games. First, the ever popular bull shit, and second, golf. The bartender learned a few new games to play in the bat cave.
We, of course, closed down the bar, and then caught a taxi, with our bartender who was going the same way, back home and called it a night. Travel Writers and More at Klenske, Ink. More thumbnails ...
