We made it to San Jose today around 1:30. The airport and city are very modern and big. The weather is perfect, mid 70's. And getting from the airport to the hotel was the easiest transfer I've ever done. Once we cleared customs we went outside where a taxi-man in an orange uniform and tie was standing with a sign reading "Mr. Nick Klenske". We greeted, us in our best spanglish and him in his best enganish (made that one up), and he took us to his orange taxicab and drove us to our hotel, Hotel Don Carlos (which by the way is not orange). The hotel is bonito. Like a large bed and breakfast with at least three large sitting areas with high ceilings (or no ceiling at all), a waterfall, a restaurant and a craft shop. Our room is like an apartment; loft like with a separate bedroom and living room and a shower the size of a very large walk in closet. Also have a nice porch. Greeted with a mixed drink and a smile. Kara took a nap and I did some reading until I became impatient and woke her up. Went for a snack and did some exploring of the hotel and then read outside. Didn't venture into the city today, a bit too tired to get lost yet. But we'll be back in san jose several times before our we head home.

p.s. No living sloth (or any animal yet) but what do you expect in a city?

p.s.s. Malaria pills taste like chalk and the promise of giving you trippy dreams is a load of crap. we'll see what the costa rican 'imperial' beer does for that.

p.s.s.s. We'll be heading to a jungle lodge on the atlantic coast in the morning, not sure when we'll be able to post again, so happy new year! in advance.
