Finally went on a night dive - this time just off the shore... we learned from last time... plus we still dont have a boat :P
The dive was pretty cool, prefer diving when you can see, but still cool. We turned off our flashlights at one point and waved our arms around because the algae in the water lights up as a defense mechanism. Little green sparks everywhere = pretty cool. Anyway after that my big flashlight stopped working properly and it looked as if it was filling up with water. No problem.. I had a backup which I used for the rest of the dive (saw 2 small reef sharks, a wierd eel and startled some sting rays with our lights). After the dive I looked at the light that wasnt working and realized that it wasn't water... It was a thick, dark green liquid of some kind... battery acid. All 4 of the batteries in the light were leaking battery acid for some reason and so I took it apart (sending the acid all over myself and the ground... I took a cold shower afterwards :P) and cleaned it out as best I could. It's currently sitting dismantled next to me and I'm not sure if I should attempt to use it again with new batteries or not.

Re: Flashlight woes
that, and apparently the o-ring was dry so some sea water might have leaked in.

Re: night diving
Yeah there is a sense of vertigo when night diving, but as long as you have a light on its pretty easy to tell up from down. Plus if its a really shallow dive you can see the moonlight.
