Our first sea day is a good time to talk about the Crystal Serenity. So far, I have been very impressed with the service here.  Our names are remembered by those of the crew we have met so far.  Our trays at breakfast and lunch are carried to a table. We had a Diet coke at lunch and they kept filling our glasses from the can. At dinner last night, I was escorted to our table by a waiter, seated and had my napkin placed in my lap.  The food is very good.
Our stateroom is nice. We have a small balcony where we can sit and watch the world go by. We are midships on Deck 8, the Horizon Deck. There is a good map of the ship if you click on the link above for the webcams. From there, you can navigate around the website and see any other aspect of the ship you wish. There is nothing to see today, except the Adriatic Sea and an occasional ship.
Our tablemates are close in age and we seem to get along well Captain's Welcome Dinner
Captain's Welcome Dinner
. We are all one our first Crystal cruise. One couple is from New Zealand, one from Massachusetts and the other from Houston.
Today, Keith went and exercised on the treadmill and I walked around the promenade deck 4 times, which is 2 kilometers. We had breakfast in the Lido Café and sat outside. Afterward, we headed over to the movie theater for the first of three history lectures.  The lecture was on Venice's history and was very interesting.  After his lecture, Marlin Fitzwater spoke. He was Press Secretary to Reagan and Bush, Sr. He talked about politics today, the media and his opinion on Scott McClellan. He was pretty fair to all sides and was pretty funny. He made on comment about Bill Clinton and how he charged half a million for a speech, but spoke crazy for free. J
Lunch was an Asian buffet (or we could have eaten in the dining room) around one of the pools. We went to the group dance lesson afterwards. We knew most of what they taught today, although we did learn one thing new. Tonight is the Captain's Welcome dinner, which means free champagne before dinner and, since we are sitting at a table for 8, we get an officer at dinner and free wine.

Tomorrow we dock in Katakolon, Greece from which we will be touring  Ancient Olympia.
