hello hello yes i am backdating this entry (i am actually in in chiclayo now)
check this page in a week or two for fotos of huaraz
so yes huaraz was lovely it is a city wedged between the cordilletra blanca and the cordillera negro o f the andes (sorry for the unfixed typos the d backspace button keeps getting stuck and eating half my post an d i am too lazy to use the arrow and delete button sorrry!) the buildings and such arent too pretty bc much of the city was levelled in an earthquake in the 40s or 70w (i cant remember) i really like the andes -- too me the andina culture is much more interesting than the coast ah or at least that they have been able to maintain more of the culture . many of the women wstill wear the traditional mutlicolored skirts (i bought one with the apron too!!!) (i couldnt resist!) it was pretty hilarious to see the drunken andinos on easter sunday -- we els , marie-helene , and i managed to miss all the semana santa festivities. oh els is a dutch girl (dont ask she does nto wear wooden shoes) adn marie-helene is from montreal. both excellent travel /adventure pals :) i was a little disappointed at missing the semana santa activies but not too much - we were trekking for friday saturday and sunday anyways... we were really lucky bc there was a beautiful full moon the first night. it was really amazing to be in this crazy valley of the andes with the snowcovered mountain in the background with this really bright moon it lit up everything which was great when i had to use the baņo natural in the evening. the trek was really hard - we ended up camping at 4400 m altitude which probbly isnt really really high but high enough for me. i was tired while hiking (we ascended 1000 m in one day!!!) but not feeling really sick just the normal tired achey from ascending but once we got to the top and were resting i really felt it. my chest ached like someone had pounded me in the chest and it was such an odd feeling bc i could breathe really easily through my nose (which is odd for ms bc of my sinuses) but i felt like i was getting any air at all which is normal but ive never hiked like that before so i didnt know what it would really feel like but it is really scary. and then i almost had a panic attack which is also really scary bc i started to claustrophobuic in the tent and then agoraphobic outside -- im so neurotic i really should move to new york. and tthen i almost threw up when i started to eat. i felt like such an absurd city girl!!! but yes the panic attack i realized that i was in the middle of the mountains with no easy way out which made me nervous bc what if something happened? mh got pretty sick too - and i didtn know how well the guides were prepared if something were to happen to any of us which fortunately it didnt. and i hadnt thoughty to ask because i didnt realyize i woul d get that sick. BUT it was a really great trip it made me realize how far i have come and i was proud of my self even tho we were too sick to complete the trek. and it was so beautiful and a good laugh and ill post fotos soon and yes. i was really worried about goint back to trujillo after spending a few loevly days in teh mountains and was thinking it would be not very fun to go back but things have been going well more adventures and volunteering ahas been going well and i hope it will continue to. one of my good friends flor the dutch french girl is leaving this weekend and els next week and mh two weeks after that but thats adventuring for you. friends are always coming and going... OKAY must go 20 secons left!!!
