okay mas fotos sorry no details sometimes its a huge pain to get these uploaded so ill do my best to narrate at some point!
ack now it wont let me post photos. rah okay ill write a little.
i have been in peru six weeks - trujillo for a month.
i volunteer at the ACJ CAPADI en El Milagro. El Milagro is a town built around a landfill. 25% of the residents work in the landfill - kids too. the ACJ (YMCA) targets children and adolescent workers - also their families. they focus on education, health, childrenīs rights/ empowerment. i mostly assist the teachers but i will be responsible for teaching english (oof) and arts/crafts at some point. it is difficult at times because some of the kids dont want to be there. also there is a lack of discipline within the center (well in my opinion) this undermines a lot of what the center is trying to accomplish. another volunteer and i mentioned this yesterday to the staff. not all of the kids work in the landfill but many do. i went to the landfill last week for the first time (not sure i want to go back). it is a bleak place. the kids and their families go through the garbage when it arrives to find salvageable items to resell. this is their income. if i heard correctly they earn about 100 nuevo soles a month per person which is about $33. but they are normal kids (well a bit more unruly) you know. its kind of a crazy experience.
allright well topics to come:
culinary adventures (i have eaten intestines (accidentally), possibly heart and other things...)
infrastructure of trujillo
why you should visit etc :)
but yeah so i am excited for the coming months... i know it will be a challenge but i know that i am learning a lot. and i think it is important to live and experience another culture etc with globalization and etc going on. it is really eye opening to speak with people from other countries about their perceptions of the states. well more on that later i guess.
ciao ciao sorry i dont write much internet is a pain.
