Awesome Day Two

The Netherlands in 1 day

During the day, we got an overview of history, politics, entrepreneurship and (fair) trade in the Netherlands. We visited Looije Tomaten (at Maasdijk) near Dan Haag (The Hague). Looije Tomaten is company which grows cherry tomatoes in controlled environment (Green House). Our experience at their green house was amazing. I will write about this sometime later. Enjoy photos till then!

On the way to De Horst, our TourGuide, Mr. Vicror van Kleef shared history and political aspects of Holland. We had lunch at Op Hodenpijl, an organic restaurant near Schipuiden. The restaurant is attached to a church without statue/photo is Juses Christ. We learned that there was a statue long back. The church was unable to raise necessary funds to manage and was sold to the current owner eventually. Now this is a spiritual centre, not a religious centre. This place is open for religious programs and ceremonies including marriages. In Holland, biggest religion is 'No-Religion'. More and more people are joining this category and indeed it is a good sign, Dutch feel.

Later we visited Den Haag (The Hague), administrative capital of the Netherlands. We saw Dutch Parliament Building, Prime Minister’s Office and the place where parliamentarians work and meet people. We got an insight in to political system in the Netherlands. We also visited Queen’s Office and her park behind her office.

Later there was an orientation on fair trade by SharePeople’s alliance partner, Yente. We visited a fair trade shop, Waar. I skipped Dutch pan cake dinner at De Wensput (at Doorn) as it was too much during the day. I had to prepare for my sector visit and update this blog.

Hi Niranjan: Thanks for copying me on your exciting blog. You have become a master blogger and I now need to take lessons from you. I see that there is now provisions to convert a blog into a book. I am going to go back and see if that can be done with my old blog. I have fond memories of Holland as I lived 10 minutes away from Mastricht for two years in the 70's. Looks like a great program - I am envying you.
