Alrighty, well much has happened since I last sent out a big ol' update.
First of all, let me emphasize that I am writing this from Tibet. The Himalayan Mountains. The Gobi Desert. Cool.
The games ended on the 11th, which was sad and happy at the same time. Our big Fudan group had a big good-bye party, with pizza and lots and lots of pictures. The coaches and UNC kids were joking that they were treating me like a boy band member. Lots of giggling, picture taking and autograph signing. No joke, it was silly.
The coaches put together a video of our time with the group and we showed it to everyone. Many people cried, I did not, I am not sure how though.
It was pretty sad saying goodbye to these people that you will probably never see again, but who knows, maybe we will. It was also really sad saying goodbye to my coaches, because I got very close with them.
So, after the games, let the travel begin. First, we flew to Beijing, which is a very different place than Shanghai. There we did some really cool stuff, Tieneman Square, the Forbidden City.
Probably the most enjoyable thing of the Beijing experience was the Hutong tour. Some of the group got on rickshaws and were cycled through an old part of Beijing. We also may have gotten beer for the tour. It was really fun, the drivers were all friends and were racing and bumping into each other. Pretty much we got raise some hell, and it was a blast.
From Beijing we did a daytrip to the Great Wall. Extremely cool. We got there before the crowds, so it was an incredible experience.
Next stop was X'ian. Never seen more pollution in my life. Nonetheless, we got to do some great stuff. Terracota Soldiers? 2 Wonders of the World in 3 days? Not too shabby.
X'ain was described to us as ONLY having 8 million people. Pretty funny. The city has the oldest standing city wall in the world. We got to ride bikes around the whole thing, which was about 10-12 miles I think. It was great.
Okay, I'm going to save Tibet pics and blog for a later date. So far Tibet has been amazing and I feel like it will take its own blog to describe everything.
