For some reason, I hear a lot of americans say Kai-yo-toe. I'm no expert, but from what I can read from the Japanese spelling, it's Kiyo-o-toe.
Whatever.
Ash and I stumbled our way to K's hostel in Kyoto. I don't mind naming names cuz this hostel was da-bomb. It was so clean and the staff so friendly. Also only a 7 minute walk from the JR station, so go visit them.
We used our guide book for its sole purpose and hunted for things to see and do as soon as we got there (after my whining about wanting to rest a bit) but then we walked around and enjoyed Kyoto in all its nighttime beauty.
Kyoto is a totally different city than Tokyo. Just like it's name, it's a total anagram of Tokyo, the same things in it, but different somehow. it was odd how much more orderly and less crazy things seemed in Kyoto. The streets were a grid pattern, Tokyo is havoc. The subways are simple and not nearly as packed, in Tokyo there's uniformed guys with white gloves to push the passengers before the doors close. The prices are high in Kyoto, well.. I guess some things are similar.
I didn't say they were COMPLETELY different.
anyways, we tried to find what the book described as a seemingly vertigo-inducing escalator in the train station that is something like 15 stories high and on a sky bridge. The sky bridge wasn't nearly as interesting as the view of the escalator. I made Ash wait while I pretended to play photographer.
Man, I love digital cameras.
alright, we then went back to the hostel, went to sleep, and continued on the next entry.
Whatever.

Kyoto is awesome. We arrived at the same JR station last summer. Cool picture of it.
