To start the day, Michiyo invited us on a hike with some of her friends. I was stoked that she did that cuz then we got to see some nature in Japan. So much of the stuff accessible by train is still in a city. (John's house, despite how rural it felt, was still in a city)

So we went hiking. We climbed this hill up to several shrines to see Ieyasu Tokugawa's favorite shrine(a bit of history; tokugawa ieyasu was one of the most powerful shoguns in Japan's history and lived during the 1600s.)

These shrines are buried in the hills and are awesome for the amount of trees that are here. There's a beautiful little restaurant next to the hills that serve japanese food. Apparently the proprietor and his wife are artisans because they had a collection of photos and ceramics 01 The route

I'm always astounded with the Japanese appreciation of beauty. It really is everywhere. There's so much detail put into the smallest things. Food is usually the first that comes to mind, especially when you pay a lot. The food is usually aesthetically pleasing as well as delicious. The way they wrap something after you buy it from a gift store - they take the time to wrap it attractively and not just slap it together. Ash bought a gift from one of the stores and the wrapping job they did on it was so beautiful.

I shoulda taken a pic.

After Michiyo took us back to her house, Ash and I packed our things up. Michiyo asked her father to come take us to the train station where we travelled to the Kansai region's most historic city, Kyoto.

Hina dolls
The display of Hina Dolls show 2 sets. Draw the line in the middle of the photo will give you the better idea of how the set looks like. There are too many kings and queens in this photo, though.
