So after making the long slog (23 hours) to Frankfurt from Sydney, I´ve found myself in the wonderful situation of having to wait eight hours until I can check into my room.

Battling jetlag, I´ve made my way around Frankfurt and had quite a lot of fun doing nothing.

I was just asked by a guy from Afghanistan on a park bench whether I was Japanese... I sat down at a respectable little French bistro for lunch, and was followed to the bathroom by an elderly gent in a suit who I believe thought I was a prostitute and who started to ask me (in broken English) whether I had ``time for happiness´´. Then again, he could´ve just been a Jehovah´s Witness trying to convert me.

At this very moment, I´m sitting in an internet cafe-slash-casino, which has the entire back catalogue of Boney M playing over loudspeaker, and has keyboards that have exchanged the letters ´z´ and ´y´... you don´t actually realise how much you take the location of the letter y for granted!!

But probably the most heartbreaking part of the trip so far has been my discovery that my cool and ultra-comfy Birkenstocks that I bought from the cute boutique in Canberra are actually considered ´declasse´ in Germany... They´re sold here like Homy Peds and Masseurs are sold in pharmacies at home... I discovered an hour into my trip of a lifetime that I´m totally uncool!

Looking forward to getting to Budapest tomorrow. More tales to come.

All the best, Nic
