Hiya,

Still in Bangkok.  Last night went to an Irish Bar so Gary could watch football !  Met a a Scottish lad who'd just had his appendix removed in a Thai hospital. He met a Thai nurse there and she wants to marry him !  He was telling us how he feels bad because he got all of his pals onto drugs.  One of them hung himself and the other is a recluse.  He had also just spent the last 2 months in a mental institute after taking drugs.

Woke up late today as we had a bad night in the hotel.  The room was clean and ok, but the air conditioning was like a tank, and guests were coming in noisy at 3 and 4am.  We set off about 1.30pm.  We headed for the sight seeing part of town near the river. I had bbq prawns for breakfast and Gary had meat on a stick.  We got the skytrain as far as it went (not far), then started walking.  It was about 40 degrees heat so it was tough going.  We came across this small temple and decided to look inside.  A woman took us over to some monks and told us to give them money for some candles and some incense sticks.  Everyone was lighting the insence sticks from candles, praying to buddas and waving insence stick around, so we had to copy them ! After what seemed like forever, we managed to find China town.  A big market with chinese food.  It wasnt like chinese food in the Uk though.  It was chickens hangiing and whole fishes, and green jelly things and see slugs !!! errr.  Needless to say we skipped lunch.  We then met a Spanish man, who invited us to work in his resteraunt in Sydney.  We then headed for the river area.  We were really tired by this stage so we got into a Tuk Tuk ( a Thai mini taxi thing ).  We asked the man to take us to the Grand Palace. He asked his friends how to get there.  They where all laughing at us because it was closed ! We knew but just wanted to see where it was for tommorow.  We then walked to the river were we had something to eat (GAry had a burger ! and I had Thai noodles with a fried egg and prawns on top for  60 baht (about 90p).

A Thai lady then asked us if we wanted to take the river boat. By this time it was late (.30pm)convinced us to go after telling us it was our last chance to see the floating market (at night - yeh right).  It was really good though.  Loads of Thai people live on the river.  You could see into their houses as you went down the canals.  There was bars and shops and even a fire station on the river! It was amazing.  It started to get dark and as we appraoched the city centre, the houses were all lit up by the river, and the Hilton hotel were ll lit up .  We got dropped off by the sky train, so we got that back to near out hotel. Just after we got off we walked passed a homeless person (theres lots of them) lying facing down on the path, with 3 puppies around her.  I took them with me to the hotel room.  (only joking !!) Anyway tommorow we hope to see the Floating market, and the grand palace and maybe the giant gold budda !!
