13,224 km's Later
Entry 21 of 82 | show all | print this entry |
so yay - the first major journey of my intrepid travels is finally completed. a whopping 13,224km's (though that does include the mileage where the few of us flew from mumbai to goa.) i still cant believe we've travelled so far in just 3 months and its also really really sad that the trip is over and 7 people that ive pretty much spent 24-7 with for the last 90 days will all soon be going their separate ways. its weird.
thats not to say of course the time has not been without its issues or madness, theres been times where ive wanted to kill every last person (i think we all have). but overall its been definately one of the most incredible things ive ever done and i wouldnt change a single thing...well maybe one or 2, but not many. ive met some really brilliant people and made some friends that i really think will be for life. (well i hope so anyway). especial thanks to stormi and ben who were probly my 2 best friends on the trip and without whom insanity would have most definately set in. i hereby forgive you for all the monkey rave gags.
to anyone thinking of travelling to india all i can say is....well * close your eyes on the roads, youre better off not looking at the way people drive! * always wear a scarf cos it has so many purposes - nose blocker in roadside squat toilets, headband when it gets hot, shawl when it gets cold * invest in astroturf, it may save your life in -2 in lachung * drink chai, eat momos * dont be afraid of the rats, they may be as big as cats but "theyre more afraid of you than you are of them" * get your head wobble sorted - youre going to need it * if youre going anywhere near the orissan state in general, be prepared for mayhem
so now anyway im in kathmandu for the next 3.5 weeks and it feels so great to be stationary. stormi and i have splashed out on an apartment right in the heart of thamel. we have a separate bedroom, a bathroom (with a BATH!!!!!!), a telly, fridge, cooker etc. its wonderful. we have 24 hr security, daily housekeeping and even our own generator so the daily power cuts dont affect us. theres HOT WATER on tap!!! we are truely living the dream.
ive no plans, ive nothing booked or organised and i dont care. today was my internet and photos day and in about 10 minutes im going to finally have all my pictures backed up on CD, my blog up to date and everything in order. and then im going for a haircut and colour and then out to our last ever group dinner (even though annie has already left :-( )
thanks to everyone for the mails the last few months its so nice when you are on the road hearing things from home even the most random trivial things.
bye for now x *
