A Nice Beach Place with HOT SHOWERS!!
Entry 15 of 64 | show all | print this entry |
hello from mallaballapurum (please excuse the spelling im not sure if its correct).
its really nice here infact and jsut so nice to be somewhere that we're not leaving at ludicrous o'clock in the morning tomorrow. the last 3 nights have been madurai (amaznig amazing temples - im being serious), trichy (illegal rum in the underground restaurant and hiding out in the table in the corner) and pondicherry (french chardonnay at Rs250 per bottle but what a treat!!!) but its also really tiring staying one night in one place, not getting laundry done and then moving off again first thing the next morning.
top 3 things in the last 4 days: 1. getting here and knowing we are going to be here for 3 nights 2. the truck being quite empty the last few days and the drives being relatively short aswell 3. temples in madurai which were spectacular
top 3 urgs in the last 4 days: 1. missing ben, rich and kirsty and constantly thinking i can hear them talking on the truck (no i am not losing it!!) 2. constantly being on the go non-stop and not being able to get laundry done as a result- i actually found myself thinking the other day whats that smell and then realised infact that it was me - not a good feeling 3. the continued prevalence of monkeys around here. they seem to have shrunk in size making their weird simian faces seem all the more evil and knowing *shudder*
things on the truck are going well anyway well for the most part. i think when you spend this much time all day every day with the same peopel that stupid little things you wouldnt care about really start to grate and you fnid yourself getting less and less tolerant. if you add into that mix then people who actually are NOT so nice and it gets really itneresting. you know the kind of people who think that things magically happen, that the truck magically cleans itself, that someone else will take out the snotrags theyve shoved down the side of the seats, that someone else will mind the truck while they take what they want off and wander away, that someone else will unload the back locker cos theyre too lazy etc etc . it wears away at your soul sometimes....
oh and for those of you in work youll appreciate this - ive been doing the kitty job on this leg which is basically owning the local USD payment that everyone gives at the start of the trip thats used for the hotels and things and then logging where it all goes.....sound familiar??? yep its pretty much budget management on the drago truck. even as we speak one of the drivers is sitting next to me doing up a kitty spreadsheet and im showing him how to do the formatting and formulae!!! ah just like the good ol days, though perhaps not dealing with the same kinds of figures. anyway we just finished up the kitty for this leg and we were out by......199Rs which is about four euro. ah yes - budget management excellence lives on :-)
and thats about it really for now even though ive not told you very much about anything. mallabalapuram is very chilled out and we've upgraded to a nicer room with a HOT SHOWER and 2 individual beds (which is quite a treat!). and stormi (my roomie) and i have decided that we're going to stay on here an extra night and just spend the one night in chennai as by all accounts its pretty rubbish and industrial.
to everyone whos sent me emails in the last while thank you so much, im trying to reply to different peopel at different times so that everyone gets some mails so please bear with me. neem - wooooooooooohoooooooooooooooooooooooo i was so worried you might not make it after some of those emails and then i got your mails today and i was so so happy.
hope everyone is well and happy anyway and talk to you all again soon. nic xx
