The train ride up the mountain to the statue is also well worth the journey. You take little cars that look like tram cars. The "jungle"surrounding the track is thick and twisted, like the knots in my daughter's hair when she exits the shower. You see little shacks along the way with laundry hanging from one roof to another. It's an amazing ride.
Once you reach the top, you then either walk or take an elevator the rest of the way to the platform with the statue. It's a main tourist attraction, so it's crowded. Thick with people from all over Europe, Asia and Brazil. You hear Italian, German, Portuguese and a whole slew of other languages boucing around.
It's actually difficult to get a good view of the Christ. He's so huge, you cannot see details very well. The best photos of him are obviously taken from helicopter or plane. Still it's impressive to stand below His image with his arms spread out embracing the world.
True to any tourist attraction, they have gift shops and snack shops. We had a couple juices while there. The fresh juices here are wonderful - cannot be beat. I will miss this when we return to Memphis.
