Day four in Rio.  Things that  have surprised me:

Humidity.  Mauro and Carolina made it seem that they had none.  They do.  It's not as bas as Memphis, but it's humid.  It's not so brutal that you're dying to be indoors, but you sweat.

It's not as crowded on the beach as I expected.  It's heavily used, but no more crowded than any other beach I've been to.

No, not everyone here is gorgeous and perfect!  You see all shapes and sizes just like any where else.  Yes, even fat Brazilians.  The cuts of the suits show more skin than in the U.S.  In some cases this is very nice.  In some cases it is not.

Many more people speak English than expected.  They'll tell you it's horrible, but it's not.

Kids do not bring beach toys to play in the sand.

Hummingbirds here are huge!  And Mauro says the one we saw is a small one!

From a distance, Favelas (slums) are pretty.  Don't let Carolina hear me say that, but they are.

Other observations or tidbits of info:
Food is good, really good.

They don't have Starbucks on every corner, but the do have juice bars.  The variety of juice available is mind boggling.  So far, most of it has been awesome!

The majority of the people in Brazil are Catholic, but they don't attend Mass.  Still, there are some beautiful churches. I guess just in case, or maybe for baptisms, funerals, I'm not really sure, but they're here.

Traffic is insane, and Mauro says I have not seen the worst of it!  Truly, getting in a car and riding here is terrifying!  They have these horrible tunnels too, and I swear people enter the tunnels and accelerate.  I'm guessing they hate them too and just want to get through them faster.

Graffiti is everywhere!  Some of it is very pretty.  I never seem to be at a moment to pull out the camera when we pass the really cool stuff.  I'll try to do better.

More Later.
