Today we are going to see liverpool!
Catherine and I got out of the house at about 9am and drove to Albert Dock in Liverpool, where the Beatles Museum is!
It was fantastic! I never knew how little I actually knew about the beatles, or how interesting all the stuff about them was! And I've never reqally liked John Lennon - but after the Beatles museum, he's gone up a fair bit in my approximation!
They had all these recreations of famous beatles areas: Mathew street, the Cavern, Abbey Road recording station - fantastic! Bit it got a bit sad towards the end - I had no idea that Paul McCartney actually put up a lawsuit to get out of the beatles! But he's still my favourite beatle - even though that does sound a bit scary!
The music was fantastic too - the first CD I'm going to buy when i get home will be Abbey Road - that is such a great CD!
There was a whole yellow submarine room! And now i finally understand the story behind Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band! I really want to see some of their movies when i get home. Mum, we have to have a Beatles movie night ok?
I found out something interesting about all of the beatles too. I'm quite happy with George Harrison for providing the funding for Monty Python's The Life of Brian!
They had the little headsets for walking around the museum, and you coudl hear comments on everything. They were really good, but i agree with catherine that it all turns quite antisocial!
Mum you would have loved to see the beatle museum!
We left the Beatles museum to walk along the Albert Dock and further into town. Unfortunately I'm not sure if i'[ve got the order of things right here, but anyway!
Catherine showed me Mathew street, and we went down into the Cavern to have a peep. It's a recreation of the original - cos the original one was knocked down. We saw the Grapes as well.
HAd lunch in an "upper class" pub - i finally got the nachos that I had been craving for a month or so!
Catherine showed me the streets and we walked up past her Uni, where she pointed out a few things. She showed me the Catholic church - a big modern witches-hat-shaped church with absolutely brilliant coloured stained glass windows. The artworks in there were amazing - sculptures of Jesus's crucifixion. I can imagine the accoustics in that place would be fantastic too - by the echo we had!
We walked off to the Anglican church now - which catherine told me is the biggest in the UK. And my goodness it is HUGE!!!!!!!!! i couldn't believe how dwarfed i felt! But it was a beautiful church! I loved just looking up at the huge arches and stained glass windows. Brilliant!
Catherine took me up to the tower of the Cathedral - we went up onto the roof! (it took two lifts and 109 stairs!) The view was fantastic though - but it was a little foggy. We went down a few steps - and then ran back up again as I had forgotten to take photos!
We stopped halfway down in the lift to look at the tapestries, and the view of the inside of the cathedral from a bit higher up. Amazing....
WE walked on to see the remains of one of the churches that had been bombed in the war (catherine said that there are plants and trees growing in the inside of the church - but its a bit dodgy so we didn't go inside!)
Wandered along to the museum, but we were running out of time on the car and there was more to see - so we continued on.
Got back to the car exactly on time, but decided to put another hour on and go and get some fudge and photos by the Mersey. Catherine and I tried to get the photo of the two of us - i think it worked!
What a fantastic day!
We drove back home and watched some tv (and i went on the internet for a bit). Catherine and Simon were taking me out for dinner! - so we were leaving for that at 6.45pm.
We left a little late and got a little lost (i'm not saying how, I don't want to get in trouble - but it had nothing to do with me :p). Just took a wrong turn into the Marsh. Lol.
We got out the car at the Marsh Cat, a lovely restaurant that looked out on the marshes - I've been told the view is spectacular in daylight!
The food was absolutely amazing! WE got an australian wine in honour of me, which was really nice! I still love the australian wine above all the others!
I had this delicious stack of fish and seafood with avocado - it was fantastic! Then chicken with creamy pasta for a main, and a really really rich chocolate and cream tart for dessert. Really really good food, and the service was fantastic too! Thanks so much guys!
Got back to the house, and as far as i remember - got on the skype to mum and dad (as long as i'm not getting my days confused!)
Zzz...
