Hey guys!
Finally i get to update my blog! I seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth for a few weeks eh! Well, here is what i have been doing for the last little while.
I left the Astor hyde park at about 6am, a nice and early start and caught a bus to the royal national hotel where the contiki tour was starting. There were about 10 other girls waiting outside - most were actually waiting inside - but i got to have a good chat to the few out there and they were all so nice, it was fantastic!
We drove down to dover - leaving at 7am - and i sat next to a nice chap called chris from brisbane who had just started his career as a pharmacist - so we had some interesting med talks!
The3 contiki passage to dover was fantastic - i spent a while trying to learn some dutch, but it wasn't going very well! But i still tried - much to the amusement of chris next to me i think!
The ferry to dover was really quiet and peaceful, met a few of the other contiki-ers, but haven't really had much of a chance to do some serious socialising as yet. I did meet michelle from lismore and jess from washington dc who were both really really nice.
I had an interesting evening! we got the hotel quite late (after speeding through belgium!) and had dinner - not really great. Tasted like packet soup and cold old food, but i was so hungry i didn't really matter that much! I had only grabbed a breadroll, apple and vegemite for the ferry over to calais in france - so was quite peckish!
We decided to be a bit cheeky and the whole bus went out to check out the red light district, which was very interesting. I think a group of about 10 guys had a lot of fun exploring skinny alley!!!!! But kirsten had a bit of laugh showing us what it was all about, and we all had a giggle. Half of the group also went to check out the "coffee shops" (ask the dutch what thats about!)- they seemed quite spaced out when we met them at 12am - though most ended up getting a taxi or train back to schipol where our hotel was.
An interesting day, got to meet such lovely people! And now i've seen part of the nightlife of amsterdam it seems....!
Love NIkki
