We waited in Fernie for two weeks while James' car, the good old VW Jetta, got alot of TLC after sitting out for the past two years. Lucky for us it turne out our good friend Neil was out in Fernie at the same time and we managed to crash in his hotel room. Thanks and million Neil!!
As Neil was recovering from on only recently discovered broken shoulder (result of a mountain bike crash), and we had to watch our pennies, none of us were riding. So we spent alot of time playing poker, drinking Ceasers and watching movies. Tough. We did however get one real good day riding 50cms of the good old champagne powder Fernie is so well known for. Awesome. After a long wait and alot of expence, we finally got the Jetta back running sweet. We packed the car up and headed for the boarder, with plans on heading to Lake Tahoe where we had season passes to ride two of the local mountain. Alas, it was not to be. Without jobs or a home in Canada, the very anal boarder guards would not let us into the US as we could not prove intent to return. As I write now I am very calm. I certainly was anything but at the time!! So we had to come up with an alternative plan, and after a big of investigation we decided on living in Nelson and riding at Whitewater mountain.
