We set off for the red fort early as it was a five and a half hour journey and we wanted to have a few breaks along the way. Finding the 4x4 is a great way to get around and view the country first hand. We got the Delhi just after noon and it was pretty hot. In a months time the Mosquito's will arrive in their droves so glad i'm here now lol. Met some english and australian tourists today which was cool; it's always good to see how others are enjoying their travels.
The red fort was historically important as it dates back to ancient times. The Mogul Empire... Gengis Khan etc. As we arrived we soon realised that in India there are always two ticket queues... one for Indians... and one for tourists! Even with the hiked up prices, most foreign travellers will find the ticket prices quite cheap tho. We visited the museums within the complex to learn about further empires and the battles which included those that took place in 1947 when India gained Independence.
The fort is huge and was designed to hold an entire city. The fort is made of red sandstone and they have a light show at night to explain it's place in history. We had to leave before it started but I reccommend it to anyone who wants a crash course in India's ancient and modern history.
We travelled back home which was another five hours but it was well worth the journey.
