Here I am posting several days later, with no movement on the map. I know it wasn't part of the "plan" but I think that word has been covered already. Since leaving the Interfuse community and arriving here with Ron and Alysia, the sense of community has only deepened. To have friends that can introduce you to dear friends you never knew before is just one small part of the depth of community that is available around the world. There are people like this all around the world waiting to make you welcome and appreciated. I can only express my gratitude for this in words, which to me seem inadequate, in an attempt to share the sense of love and compassion I was shown.
I had intended to hike out of here Tuesday morning of course, but I was told that I could be a help to my hosts in a few little capacities around the house, I gladly agreeded to stay a couple of days to help out. Well the ever present rain and the ever wonderful Phoenix Moon (R & A's 11 month old child) there have been a few snags to powering thru our list of projects. What ever the excuse, I have been graced with a more comprehensive look at Columbia. It is a college town like many others. Unlike many others though, I have seen a progression towards a more sustainable community. In this neighborhood many of the yards of grass have been tilled over for gardens of food, herbs and ediable flowers. One person has a roto-tiller and another on the street will gladly do the tilling and planting for those who may not be able, or lack the knowledge or confidence to do it. Those in the latter catagory are being attracted to this by what they have seen in their neighbor's yards.
Like so many other times I have met intentional, creative folks in this community, I am meeting folks who are quite gifted musicians as well. Over and over I see a corrolation of free thinking and creative arts to the point of believing the are inherently combined, re-enforcing each quality in kind. This once again begs the question from me, "why do we remove funding for music and art while ensuring funding for sports in our school systems?". I get the popularity and "rah, rah" nature of this decision but it just seems a bit knee-jerk or short sighted to me.
OK, I will try to tie all this into what seems to be coming next for my journey. During this time here, I have been invited to help in the building of a strawbale building, and as I and Gyvonne are interested in alternative building methods, we have agreed to try and incorporated this into or journey. It should not be to hard to find a hike around our new destination and get some more shake-down walking in. Either way, I am excited about the twist in the journey, which I credit an open heart and mind for unfolding before me. I will be makeing my way down to Georgia to meet up with G, who I hope finds an interesting trail to follow. All I see are possibilities laid out before me. Blessings of Peace and Harmony.
