Well, weīve just had another 8 hour bus trip but it was broken up in the middle by a mad rush in the back of a ute to catch a connecting bus on a road in the middle of nowhere (see photo). Yes, thatīs 12 of us plus gear for 14 in the back of the ute - ready for a 15km journey at 100kmh on a main road. OK - it was fun!

Arrived at Cuenca and had a look around. Beautiful old buildings and paved streets, very narrow. Lovely cathedrals. For some reason it seems to be alot more Americanised here - clothing, music (cheesey Lionel Ritchie, Air Supply......nice)!

Unfortunately weīre here over the weekend and everything shuts down. They have some great museums but they're all closed after midday Saturday. The most thriving parts of town are the cathedral and the local icecream joint which seems to be making a packet!

Still very few tourists and next to no English spoken which is nice. Tomorrow we cross the border into Peru and stay at Mancora - a local beach resort which sounds great. All in all Ecuador has been fantastic and we couldnīt recommend it highly enough. We're so glad we decided to include it in our trip.

Over and out for now!

Hello from freezing Huonville
The blog is fantastic! Thanks guys for including me. What great adventures you are having. Loved the photos..... biking, horse riding, rafting.... sounds fantastic.

It was zero degrees for the first day of term. Foggy, frosty and the place is crazy with all the redevelopmentchanges....... no more of that boring stuff.

Have a total blast, sounds like your making the most of every moment. Happy travels

Cheers Leanne Sveen
