on our first day in ubud we decided to just explore. we ended up going to the monkey forest which is in the town itself. there are a looot of monkeys there and they are not just cute. they can get quite dangerous actually. you can't bring food with you or other things they might want. cause if they see something they like they'll just take it, even if they have to bite you to get it.. joel actually had to learn that lesson because he had a large waterbottle with him that wouldn't fit in the backpack. the moment he sat down (far away from the monkey) the monkey jumped on his lap and stole the bottle from him. we did see baby monkeys too though and those are sooo cute!!!
after the monkey forest we kept walking around, looking around until we went for dinner and then made reservations at a spa for tuesday
that's pretty much it. oh wait, maybe i should say what my first impression is of bali. well, so far it's a lot cooler than i expected. temperaturewise that is.. i already knew it was cool as in amazing! but the air's actually rather cold compared to what we're used to now travelling in singapore and malaysia or java, except when the sun's out. there are temples everywhere. every family owns several temples, one for the family, one for the house, etc. they have to have them and they're expensive. you can go in and look at them when you walk through the streets. some are really beautiful, others more rundown. also, ubud is very green. well, bali is very green. there are rice fields everywhere, even in the town. our hotel is surrounded by them. it's funny how in switzerland i often eat rice but i never once thought about how the plant looks. i mean, i'm sure most people have seen pictures of rice terraces so they are familiar with that. but i never knew how the plant actually looks and all. well, now i know.
that's it. more information on bali in tomorrow's blog.. ;)
