Why does love always feel like a battlefield a battlefield a battlefield... For those of you who don't recognize that line it if from Jordin Sparks' song and was stuck in our heads the entire weekend as we went on our battlefield tour. It was sort of like our theme song. Anyways our journey began with our lovely driver Phillip driving us to town bush road so that we could board the wonderful coach bus that awaited us for our 4 hour drive to blood river. Most of us planned on doing the loads of homework we have on the bus but what did we do instead? sleep! Which was nice, before we knew it we were at the battle site of Blood River where 400 Boers fought off 12.000 Zulus I think it was ... i can't quite remember. But they did so by taking their wagons, 64 of them, and making a big circle around them as their defense and with the advantage of guns they were able to defeat the Zulus. It was really cool because at that battle field had replicas of 64 wagons all in a circle so you got a really good visual of the battle. Of course after our wonderful lecturer for the trip, Tony, who is very old and grandpa like finished telling us about that battle we all ran off to take pictures!
Afterwards we returned to our hotel which was the cutest little hotel ever! it was more like a bed and breakfast feel and each room was different and the people who owned it were so kind and took good care of us. The evening was spent mostly in the lobby where we all circled around Reg, the director here who is like a new found grandpa, who told us stories and discussed theology with us. In between our discussions we had an amazing dinner! Wow it was so good! The hotel had a little dining room where we were served and appetizer, had an amazing buffet, and desert! My favorite was the lemon pudding thing, yum! We also had a delicious breaki there the next morning. I can not get over how amazing this lodge was, it was beautifully decorated, had wonderful food and wonderful service! They even stood outside and waived goodbye as we drove away. The only downside to this day was the my cold that was worsening by the hour :(
