We had some time in hand this morning and the drive ahead not so long today so went back up the coast a couple of miles to a scenic viewpoint high above the road for views of Cape Perpetua, the area where we stayed last night.
After we left we stopped to fill the car with gas (petrol) at a Shell station. But it is against the law in Oregon State to fill yourself - the attendant has to do it. It was probably the cheapest petrol on our trip because there was no sales tax on the petrol here either. But petrol man was very useful. Gave us a very good recommendation to stop at the next town, Bandon, for 'fish and chips'. (Interestingly here on the west coast they do call fried potatoes 'chips' but on the east coast they are usually called 'fries'.) So we did give him 2 dollar tip for his charming smile and helpful advice, which is probably the amount of money we had saved on the sales tax. But we followed his advice because the book we are using as our bible for this trip - 'USA Road Trip' - also said the same thing.
A fairly quiet day, just more and more scenic coast views and we drove for about 50 miles through the Oregon Dune area. Sand, sand and more sand. Even 10-15 miles inland huge sand banks towering above the side of the road.
Eventually arrived at the 'motel' the Pacific Reef Resort on the edge of the ocean. The town was getting ready for 'back to school' tomorrow and we took a walk down the road to buy provisions. Most entertaining thing we saw was the sign for a dog Self-wash. If anyone knows how a dog 'self-wash' works please do let us know.
