Slept for most of the morning drive.. We arrived into Fox Glacier just before lunch - another Jurassic Park landscape! Checked into the hotel before heading for some lunch with Robyn and Rachel (kumara, carrot & ginger soup - lovely). Headed to check in for my glacier trek, our guide was a nice Kiwi guy called Adrian. We got kitted out with boots and thick socks before heading out to the bus. A little drive later and we were at the front of the glacier. We walked towards it while Adrian told us about the area. It's pretty amazing how the glacier moves and changes in size so frequently and what the power of it can do
We reached the start of the glacier, stopped to put crampons under our shoes and collected a walking stick. Felt weird first stepping onto the ice - you have to walk like a 2 year old, little stomping steps. The guides carve stairs into the ice so you can walk up the glacier - we headed to look at a few things including natural holes that go down and down and down plus a little cave that you could walk through. Loved that. We spent about 2 hours walking before heading back to the bus. Such a cool experience.
Returned our clothes and headed back to the hotel, there was a huge double rainbow in the sky - it was so bright. Amazing.
Lamb shank and much needed vegetables for dinner. We all sat chatting the evening away and putting the world to rights. Can't believe it's our last night - has been two of the best weeks of my life..
