Haad Rin is where the Full Moon Parties happen on the island - pretty much what I expected, a bunch of 18 year olds going crazy. Happy not to be staying there & to have met some like-minded people. Went to another Thai boxing match (much more brutal than the one in Chaing Mai) and to a pool party
. Lots of people covered in fluro-paint drinking out of buckets. We sat people watching and talking before deciding to bail. Went for some beers and caught the end of the Spain vs. Italy final. Got a Songthaew back with a bunch of people, exchanged contacts with some nice girls from Liverpool who said to meet up at the FMP tomorrow. People keep telling me I'm brave travelling alone but I've barely been on my own so far!
Looking outside my window this morning I can't quite believe I'm here, is everything I hoped. So beautiful. Have spent the past few hours on the beach - literally just me, wading birds and little scuttling crabs. The horizon is dotted with islands and the sea is crystal clear. Am aware it's Monday morning back home, wish you were here..
Set out to meet the Aussie guys for some drinks last night in Haad Rin. As I was leaving my hotel a tropical thunderstorm broke out - never before witnessed such a big storm. Sheets of rain, massive bangs of thunder and lightning every few seconds. A little scary but also quite cool. So there I am in the back of a Songthaew (bus I described in Sukothai) with my scarf wrapped around me and my umbrella up (once the thunder & lightning stopped..) Got there and it was essentially like walking through a river, at least it's warm though and not like when you get soaked back home!
