So here we are in Bangkok on the first leg of our big journey...
Arrived in Bangkok a couple of nights ago though already it feels like it was months ago. We arrived late at night and by the time we got to the infamous Khao San Road (backpackers everywhere...) we were hot, tired and in need of a bed. But, as happens when you are in most need of it, all rooms were full. Candy and I were starting to wish we had left a few of our accessories behind, as those 23 kg each started to make the shoulders ache...perhaps we didnt need 3 first aid kits, travel knife and fork, travel washing line, safety whistle, 4 pairs of shoes etc etc... Eventually we got a room in what must be the mankiest place on earth. My first fear was that it would be too expensive and blow our budget right out. There were photos of rooms outside the guest house of rooms with infinite amounts of space, crispy white sheets and clean walls...but at that time of night, I decided price would be no barrier. I needed a shower and to sleep. We were led to the only room they had availble. Ummmm, you guessed it, nothing like the photos. OPening the sliding door, I was reminded of a kitchen cool room but inside it was hardly cool. IN fact there were no windows and it felt very much like a prison cell. Perhaps this is the true 'Bankok Hilton'... But what could we do, so we settled down for an awful night on rock hard mattresses and pillows that felt like little bricks under my head. Candy comforted me by saying it was good for my back... Yeah, whatever...
The next day we trapsed around Khao San Rd getting nappy rash from the heat and caught a tuk tuk to the floating markets which weren't happening. We went for a walk through some little streets and checked out a temple... Then in the arvo I ran into a german boy who had been on our flight. His name is Yves and we had a beer and discussed what to do that evening...
PLS DONT READ THIS NEXT PARA IF YOU ARE SQUIRMISH...
"Ping POng" anyone?? Everyone has to see the shows if they are in Bangkok right??... So with him and his friend Arif we headed into town that night for a show.... Wow... who ever knew that so much was possible down there... girls opening bottles with their bits, whipping out metres of ribbons and razor blades and then there was the girl who somehow managed to empty one clear bottle of fizzy soda water type stuff inside of her and then spit it our back into a bottle the colour of coke. How does she do it??! and then there was the live sex show... Well we stuck around for a while then had enough and left.
Tonight we are catching the 15 hour bus trip to Phuket to hang out for a bit before heading to some of the islands... I am really looking forward to some peace and quiet and the fresh air...
More to come about that later...

Did you learn the fizzy-drink trick?
I think that would be a great party trick for next cocktail party... Want me to keep a travelpod of my adventures around Sydney for the next three years??
Welcome to Asia
