Greetings from Puno. I arrived yesterday after a long but beautiful (of course) journey by train, up from Cusco across the dry, dusty altiplano and finally the shores of Lake Titicaca came into sight.

It's the middle of Puno week, and Puno is proud to be folklore capital of Peru. Tomorrow is the main day, with the emergence of Manco Capac from Lake Titicaca. The parades through the streets seemed like a bit of a nuisance when we arrived last night as the crowds made moving with a backpack a tad tricky and there was plenty of barging involved, as well as becoming temporary less glamorous additions to some of the participants' groups. But deciding to get an early night and return for more today was a miscalculated move. The phrase 'move along now, nothing to see here' comes to mind. Puno Week clearly doesn't mean the whole week, just selected days, and today isn't one of them. Various people we questioned went into detail about how good yesterday was though.

Filled the afternoon with a mystery bus ride to Juli, where we lazed on the shores of Lake Titicaca and not a lot else really. Despite a sign as we entered proclaiming Juli as a tourism capital its sights seemed to be limited to 4 churches, so I did my tourist duty and visited one. Pleasant enough though, and fun to be gawped at again after all the time in Cusco and Puno where tourists are 10 a penny.
