welcome to the east of thailand and to the home of the famous bridge over the river kwai.
we had a great time here and it was such an interesting place to be. the town is very laid back. only a little more developed than it was during the second world war. there are lots of guest houses and english pubs tho now. the people are really nice. it is a nice change from Bangkok. obviously we visited the bridge while we were here. during the war there were 2 bridges built. the wooden one has now gone but the steel one still remains. we were able to walk across it too. it was very emotional being here and me being a big softie broke down a bit. it was scorching the day we were there and we were in shorts and tops and just ambling around. it must have been pure hell for the prisoners of war building that bridge. also for those soldiers who were fighting in and around asia, the heat must have been unbearable. it really makes you appreciate even more what those men did for us.
went to the JEATH mueseum while we were there which was good too. finally we went to the commonwealth graves and paid our respects. a really beaautiful cemetry. More thumbnails ...
