I LOVE FLORENCE...but we aren't talking about that yet because i still have 1 day here

CINQUE TERRE (the five lands) is where i went today...a short drive through the Tuscan country side and we found ourselves on the northern Italian Riviera (just a hop, skin 'n a jump from the French one)

these 5 town are littered with colourful houses on the edges of cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea (the tour guide kept calling them ANCIENT and when i asked for a time period, he said 1100's...ancient? lol)...we started at the most southern one and walked/trecked/caught the train to all the rest

i left the tour group half way through the day and met up with them at the last town...there was no mistaking this tour as a hiking one because THAT'S WHAT IT WAS CALLED!  yet we managed to have a dude wearing thongs, a few old people, a 7-months-pregnant chick wearing gold sandals, and even an asian chick holding a paper parasol...i lasted until lunch before i dumped them and went my own way

right then i sent an sms to my bff in sydney telling her it was all a bit yukky, but in all truth we had started off at the shitter of the i went on it all got prettier - and it probably helped that i was just off on my own eating gelato rather than listening to how ANCIENT it all was

i met an older american couple on the tour, they were nice people, very talkative and kind (americans usually are), and they were both a bit obsessed with me travelling alone...every few hours they'd seek me out and each of them would have at least 2 questions they'd thought of in between - how did you plan it; what if you don't like it; how do you have so much time off work; aren't you scared? please be careful...we sat at a little bar to drink a recommended local white and i happened to order for the table - i was the one the waitress looked at...after i ordered 4 of the same, they asked me how "how long have you spoken italian?"..."i don't speak italian??" so we all looked at each other confused...just because the locals CAN speak english, doesn't mean you shouldn't try, right?  i'm sure i didn't sound italian to the waitress, but really, how wrong can you get "cinque terre bianco, quatro" this evening i head out to town (i.e. around the corner)...they have cigarette vending machines at the front of tobacco shops so i stopped at one to get a pack...i'm trying to shove my money in while scoping out the options and then i quickly grab at the 5 euro note before it's sucked in - i was standing at a condom vending machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  i had enough wits to just quickly walk away without checking if anyone saw

woe is me, what should i do?  EAT PIZZA!  boconccini with capers, anchovies and oregano...i hate the whole bloody thing, i am such a pig

ps...look at the dude in my picture...LOOK AT HIM...i have no words...THIS is italy!

pps...i am about to turn off the netbook...wish me luck!

you are cracking me up so much :)))

OK the rule is you must eat at least one gelato a day whilst in italy like we did the sangria in ibiza, and why not add a pizza to that list as well?

OMG why is everyone so freaked out about a woman travelling alone, see our society is nowhere near as advanced as they think

so was the italian on the beach worse than those french dudes in ibiza lol?

oh and ps all bits crossed for the netbook
