Big 4 van park
We are in Kununurra and decided to stay for a couple of nights thinking that we could probably see all that there is to see in the area that we were going to check out. As you will see we have to stay a bit longer than expected.
We drove out to Whydham and it is pretty small town and most shops are all closed down some of them look rather old like back when could tie your horse up out front. This place is good to see as this is where 5 rivers meet up. You can drive up a very high mountain and take a look over the rivers but as most will know around Australia is that we do have a dust storm and yes we have it out here and it is not a great view of the rivers, other than seeing how much dust is blowing around. They do have a very large croc statue at the start of the town. a large salt flat surrounds a lot of the town to. I would say that if you had a boat it would be worth travelling up there to go fishing in the rivers but other than that not really worth the fuel to get there
On the way up we stopped into the Grotto its a area of the road that is signed and at the end you see a large area that a brillant waterfall would occur if it was raing and flooding, it has a great waterhole down some rocky steps that take you down the sde of the gorge. I would love to see this place in the wet season. It is very rocky here the mountains are full of it all layered on top of each other.
On the way back to Kununurra we stopped into EL Questro a station that has many gorges and waterfalls they also have EL Questro homestead very exclusive and only 12 guests at a time. We had to drive along the Gibb River road and how much fun was that road it was corrugation and more corrugation. The dirt road up to Emma gorge resort was not bad but to get from that turn off o the El Questro turn off well hold on to your seats and hope your teeth dont fall out. We got to the turn off and headed for the township of El Questro thinking it was more than a house and fuel stop. (why I dont know but anyway) we got there and found out that you have to pay to and see what is natural to the land we chose not to and headed off. Also the Zebedee Springs close at 12pm so the guests can go there in peace. We got there half hour late on the way into the township luckily I guess cause we hadnt known about fees. so what we got to see was road, the town, Emma gorge resort and many mountains which the movie Australia was made around
we finally got ourselves back to the highway and wouldnt ou know it a bloody flat tyre it must have happened not to far back on Gibb River road as it went down slowly. So out we all got and dan changed it after having the car for near 5 years we never had a flat. I guess thats travelling for ya. You never know what to expect and what you will get to see and experience along the way, so just take it and move on. So this is why we have to stay longer in Kununurra to get a tyre and of course Monday is a holiday here so we have to stay the extra day.
There is lots to see and do here if you want to spend the dollars like flying over many of the sites or taking a cruise around. Only get Nextg out here with mobiles. Fuel is 159.9. Groceries are not to badly priced actually.
