Where I stayed
We got on the bus from Banos to Quito at about 6, hoping to arrive in Quito late and go straight to the airport for the night... we had planned to get the 6.30, the last bus out, but arrived just as the 6 o clock was leaving so jumped on. This was a mistake!
Bearing in mind our lack of sleep from our rum night we had hoped to sleep a bit on the bus, but that wasnt to be, as a big group of drunk / drugged youths jumped on the bus after about an hour, heading for a night out in Quito I guess as it was sat night... they were loud and obnoxious and started having a bit of a fight at teh back. The ticket man kept having to go to the bak to sort it out, eventually he brought one of them to the seat behind me, which made me a bit nervous, as he could barely walk. Then each time the ticket man went back to the front, this idiot got up, stumbled back to the back of the bus and started fighting again, people kept pushing him back to his seat behind me,... it eventually escalated, not sure how it happened, but the ticket man must have asked them to get off... one of them then started hugging this guy he knew at the front... then one of them spat in his face, so he punched him (I guess one had said something to him)... they all started to get off then, the other people on the bus started screaming and shouting and threatening to call the police, the big drunk idiot behind me them fell and dribbled on me, knocked his bag into my head and his girlfriend barged past and elbowed me... a brawl started at the front and eventually they fell off the bus.... abnd then started to get rocks and started throwing them at each other... the bus stopped... so I panicked thinking they were going to get back on, but I think he was collecting the family he had just dropped off at teh same stop.... we then went around the corner and dropped the family off safely... we finally continued to Quito, shaking and feeling quite sick from the journey - we got a taxi to the airport where we spent the night... on hard seats! Goodbye South America, hello Central America!
Ps, its funny how British people do anything but try to get involved... al and I spent our time trying to look out of the window and pretend nothing was happening so as not to get involved, but the Ecuadorians say what they think and join in with it all....
