Where I stayed
Though we should update you on our travels and let you know we're still alive!
Had an amazing 3 days sailing round the Whitsunday islands. It was absolutely incredible. Set sail from Airlie Beach in Tuesday night on a 108 year old sail ship. We had our own cabin and really took to life at sea!
The first night we sailed to Whitsunday Island. When we woke up in the morning we were at Whitehaven beach. It's perfectly white sand, and surrounded by rainforest. Amazing! Spent the morning sunbathing, and yes, I burnt. Went back to the boat where a traditional Aussie BBQ was waiting for us! That night we sailed upto Hayman Island where we moored for the night. The boat has it's own bar, so took advantage of that
Woke up in the moring to go snorkling in blue pearl bay. The beach is made from dead coral, so it isn't the most comfortable, but it's the best for snorkelling. We were given 'stinger suits' which are extremely fetching and were supposed to stop us getting stung to death by jellyfish. Even with this, me and Amyy were not in a particulaly brave mood and at the first sight of a jellyfish we quickly exited the water. Turns out they were harmless...balls.
Next, onto Langford reef, which is a sandy spit surrounded by coral reefs. Saw some dolphins on the way there! Got burnt to buggery again, turns out out the Australian sun is more powerful than any suncream. Saw 4 turtles swim past us on the beach.
Next we sailed to South Molle Island. It's another paradise island. Got ratted again on the night. The bar worked on a tab system, which, when you're drunk, is translated as 'free'. The bill was horrendous.
Went for a hike (yes...hike!) on the morning to blow away the cobwebs and the nausious feeling that comes from excessive amounts of beer, food and sea sickness
Sailed back to the harbour that afternoon. Amy and I were both shattered, but met up with people from the boat that night for food and drinks.
Was an amazing few days. Heading north today for more Australia fun!
Hope all is well at home.
