Didn't get chance to update you all yesterday, as it was a jam packed day, and our body clocks are still so messed up that we can’t really plan anything incase jet-lag hits!
Got up late yesterday and went for a traditional Singaporean lunch in a 'hawker’. It’s like a market but where all the food is prepared for you. It’s where all the locals eat, and it really is amazing. You can choose from any pretty much any type of food, highlights include: noodle bar, Indian, Korean, Chinese, sushi, Singaporean chicken and rice, and, of course, everyone’s favorite… pig’s organ soup. We managed to have three whole meals between us for about ₤8…wow!
Had a wonder round central Singapore in the afternoon and saw the usual touristy stuff, went back to the hotel to change and then walked to Raffles
From here went back to the hotel for a nap and then got ready to explore Chinatown, which is like a different world. Walked around Chinatown for about half an hour and sampled the local Satay. We then went to a restaurant, and had local chilli crab, which we picked from a tank :-( …it was immense. To go with the crab we ordered rice and noodles with gravy. Turns out Chinese gravy is not the beefy sauce we expected but instead….phlegm. Amy wouldn’t eat it, but I thought it was delicious.
Walked back to the hotel, went to bed early and woke up early to get our flight to Sydney, this morning. Again, an uneventful flight. The in-flight entertainment was broken though! Argh!!
After an epic wait we got our hire car. Turns out the people who are employed by Thrifty in Australia are there as they couldn’t get a job in a BT call center. What a useless wazzock he was. Got a free upgrade on the car though.
After getting used to the automatic car we drove to our hotel, which is very, very swish. Amy and I are delaying embracing the backpacker lifestyle, for the moment, while we enjoy some luxury in Sydney!
Busy day planned for tomorrow,
Nick and Amy
