This was a month long vacation which was the first vacation I had ever planned by myself. I also consider this one of the greatest vacations of my life where I got to experience so much and reach a level of happiness I never even knew existed. I started my trip in Alicante and left from there to go to Madrid for two days and stayed in this really cheap hostel way out side of the city. After that I left from Vallodolid to go to Holland where on the way I met a Dutch family that offered to drive me to Laren where I would stay for a week with my friend from Sevilla. Once in Holland I preceded to vist my friends from Sevilla and meet some new ones. I jumped from house to house and got to see cities like Utretch and Amsterdam. I got to try some amazing Dutch food like the special Dutch French Fries with Mayonnaise. I saw carnivals and college initiation parties and got to ride bicycles all around the country while getting to stay with Dutch Families. But when my time came to go after staying for three weeks I departed for Belgium to stay with my friend Mathieu only for two nights but I got to see a little of Brussels and Gent. I also got to learn about the cities in canal rides as well as try the famous Belgium Beer. After Gent I hope on my first ever High-Speed Train and went to Belgium to meet up with TILBOOO(a nickname my dutch friends gave him because his name is tillman and tilbo in dutch means testicle, also the dutch hate the germans.) but once I got Germany Till set me up in his house in Kohl, after having some difficulties meeting up in the same train station, and I got to try some of the best red meat of my life which turned-out to be ostrich. He than took me out for a night and I got to meet his friends and practice my spanish with some Germans originally from other countries like Spain. I stayed in his house for a few days and than we departed to go a travel vacation through-out spain for next 2 weeks. We had some problems catching our plane in Dusseldorf but after a frustrating 16 hours of traveling and one stolen computer charger we arrived in Valencia and set up shop. The terrible travel experience was worth it when, after exploring the for day, we got to go to La Tomatina. A giant tomato fight in the small town of Bunyol. Getting there was a bit of a hassle because we had no idea what we were doing, but before we knew it we had somehow ended up exactly in the middle of this tomato fight surrounded by 30000 people. It was insane, tomato everywhere, people ripping of clothing, huge trucks moving through these streets that could barely fight them, and very very drunk Spaniards. Eventually we made it back to our hostel after a crazy tomato war, but only to shower and hop on a bus a 12 at night to drive 8 hours to San Sebastion only to wake up and find that we would not be able to check in nor sleep. So there we were after being awake since 5 the day before waiting in our hostel because we couldn't check-in, well we decided to hangout in the study room until we could check in and when we finally could i had been up for almost 40 hours. I didn't know how exhausted I was so I stupidly we decided to go to the beach to see if we could surf(the original reason we had chosen San Sebastion), and it turns out the minute I laid down I past out and even better I past out in the blistering sun with no shirt or pants or SUNSCREEN. I awoke six hours later to discover the worst sunburn of my life, I walked in the hostel and the clerk said "pareces como una tomatina". But after that incident things only went up hill, and I was able to get some surf boards and till and I got to surf waves of 12 feet, we went out every-night and ate pinxhos a delicious basque tapa. After a wonderful week in what turned out to be my favorite place in Spain i returned home to Alicante to continue studying.
I think I enjoyed most about the trip the fact that not only I got to plan it and execute it by myself but also I truly got to experience other cultures by being able to live with the patrons of said countries. I enjoyed getting to feel like a local and truly reminded me why I travel as much as I do.
