(Nicole) Our first camel safari! And it was extremely hot! The camels are tall, soft-spoken, and kind. We rode on them for a few hours, trotting along the Thar desert, bruising my butt and thighs. The sand dunes looked liked gentle rolling hills in hues of light, light yellow. Soon, the sun will be setting. We stopped atop a small hill to soak up the view. The bright orange-yellow ball descended slowly over the horizon. Total silence. Peace.

Then, it was pitch black. We rolled out our cots and blankets to sleep under the billions of stars that shined in the sky. We stared at the big dipper and hugged each other tightly (yes, it was really romantic). Quiet and serene. Until it got chilly and windy. The wind started blowing in every direction. I was rubbing sand out of my eyes and spitting out sand from my mouth. Sleeping in the open desert is not all that simple for me because 1.) I've never been in a desert 2.) I've never slept in the open air, and 3.) it was darn cold. I did not know when the night was going to end. Just when I started to get comfortable, the sun ascended over the horizon and it was time to get up.

During the day, when the sun is scorching and your skin is frying, all you think about is the evening when the sun is down. At night, when the winds are blowing and the temperature drops significantly, all you wish for is the sun to come back up.

Well, I guess that's the desert for you...
