‘The 3-hour rollercoaster…’

! The hour spent leaving Wellington harbour was both exciting and terrifying. The “Boom!” of the waves crashing against the ship was incredible! We had waves of up to 10metres… they felt miles high. The boat seemed to be tipping so far right I was amazed, but very thankful, that it tipped back! The atmosphere on board was wonderful, everyone laughing with the enthusiasm and amazement of children at Christmas. Once we’d come out of the harbour, we were freed from the wind trap, and sailed peacefully into Marleborough. Wow, what an incredibly stunning place. Rocky outcrops, deep bushy hills, small harbours and houses that seemed to be only reached by water. We set foot, well - tyre, on South island soil at 5:30 and drove down to Blenheim (not palace) through the sunset. Great place we’re staying in tonight. The internet is pretty dear, but there’s a hot pool for $5! I’m so exhausted. We’ve seen so much in the last 3weeks, I can’t believe it’s been 3 weeks, and there’s so much more to come! The South island has Pancake rocks, Wineries, The most Southerly point, Glaciers and my wonderful family… it’s going to be fantastic! I think we’re going to try to get to Christchurch ASAP so we can escape ‘the tin can’.
We left the campsite for 10a.m. and drove straight to the harbour to find our ferry terminal. We’re 3 hours early so there was time to mooch. It’s so windy today, so I stayed in the camper whilst Helen and Mam went to have another look around Wellington. Bluebridge had told us to be there for 12noon to board. 12 rolled round and there was no movement. At 12:20 a steward popped around all the cars and told us that there was ‘A problem’ with the ferry, so it wouldn’t be sailing. Their rival company Interislander was mulling over the idea of taking Bluebridges passengers on for a good 30 minutes. Finally, we were told we could go to the other terminal and board the Interislander ferry. We were warned no less than 3 times that the passage was ‘Rough’ and we could have a refund if we wanted to travel another day. As we’d got a 50% off deal on our tickets, we’d be loosing $215... So we braved it! Rough, blimey. More like ‘Rough As’
