Because we are brilliant deal hunters we managed to get a free transfer from Cairns to Port Douglas, a little further north from Cairns. The views of the coast were amazing as we meandered along the coastal road and we arrived in Port Douglas raring to go and explore the town - we even rented push-bikes..... how energetic....

Anyway, after getting the bikes and leaving the hostel, which was very cleverly named 'Dougies', we were free to explore. It took us about 5-10 minutes to ride into the town centre and by the time we got there I was pretty darn sweaty. It wasn't really that hot in comparison to other climates we have been through but we all had a good old fashioned sweat-athon. It had been a while since I had ridden a bike but after a few escapes from head on collisions with stationary cars and the odd rubbish bin I was back in the swing of things. There's no point in holding back now so I'll be honest with you - Port Douglas is boring.  There was pretty much bugger all to do - I felt the need to swear to emphasize it properly. The beach was pretty nice but other than that the town's highlight would probably be a good sized, reasonably priced supermarket.

In the evening we went for a walk around to see what crazy things the masses were upto. However, the craziest thing we discovered was Toad Racing and we managed to miss that unfortunately. It was a nice place and is worth a visit but we stayed for two nights when one would have been sufficient. Also, due to the fact that I had recently checked my bank balance (ouch) I had decided to have a few days off alcohol - if I had been drinking it may have been more interesting.... On the plus side I managed to finish off a book and read the first half of another whilst here so I managed to keep my mind active at least.

It is fair to say that we were actually excited about the prospect of returning to Cairns (which would surprise pretty much everyone who has been there).
