While cleaning all the shells I suffered my bare hands to retrieve from the wet sand and wind, I finally realized what it is that has been making me so happy lately.

Living as a freelancer in New York, I really don't know when my time here will end. NOR do I have a clue as to what I'll do after (a year of unemployment and travel gave me a good shake). Unlike how I use to be, before this year, I've been living in the present, rather than constantly guarding future plans and expectations. It's a wee bit more stressful (and dangerous), but I'm having entirely more fun. And am happy. Today.

I invited the other girls to come with me, but they only showed interest in texts once I had gotten myself down to the shore -- declaring that yes, I was serious about going and yes, it's entirely awesome out here. They want in next time.

I've always wanted to see the beach with snow, well, always beginning after seeing the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." Seeing waves, sand and snow all at the same time seemed entirely impossible to me. Like it raining at sea (<- that use to be my shocker ...After all, what need does the ocean have with rain? (keeping all my attention on plants and animals).
I traveled by train out to Rockaway Park, an island (maybe peninsula) just South East of Manhattan.
(Just north of here is a place called Fire Island I really want to go to another day. They instruct visitors to keep away from any seals spotted :)! Most recently at work though, I've been reporting on a serial killer out on Long Island who's left his victims' bodies hidden in brush along the shoreline. Naturally, while searching for Fire Island on a map, I spotted Gilgo Beach just to its west... the spot the women's bodies were found. Soooo at the moment, only want to go there with a friend. NOT that it's a bad area though. Supposedly it's one of the nicest!)

Hope you enjoy the pictures I took today! Was a very happy one :) Always happy when outside and close to water (and with my first foot on the shore, and yes snow, I immediately had a strong feeling of being home).
