Once went on a date with a guy who picked me up after work and told me we'd do absolutely anything I wanted to do. "Name the first thing that comes to your head." Being honest, I told him I'd like ice cream and exploring a Barnes & Noble (it had been a few dates in ;)
Today felt like one of those days, but with a friend.

Last night/New Year's Eve was, okay. Kate, her boyfriend and I, hadn't made plans in advance and so we ended up bar hopping ...to some of the lower-end places around New York. One of the best parts of the night was all the pizza I ate (a fav past time) and meeting the owner of our last bar who made drinks for us on the house. Honestly, not enough dancing, and I met too many creepy guys. CREEPY guys.
But today, today, was sublime. Happy New Year.

The Swedish girl on my floor, also named Kate, knocked on my door to ask if I wanted to walk to a pearl and stone store. No idea what that meant, but wanted to get out for a walk anyway, so said sure.

"There's something I want to show you," Kate guided us south down Lexington. She said the same thing when we were leaving our building -- her pushing the elevator to the top floor where I've never been...

We have a patio on the roof.
And a practice/music room.
And an amazing view of the Upper East Side.
"You said you've never been," she reasoned.
Can't believe it myself, now that I've seen what I've been missing.
Kate's a year older than me, studying dance in Manhattan (we saw "Black Swan" last week together which I thought was incredible, while cool hearing her thoughts/reaction). She's also the absolute funniest and cutest girl I've met here -- just being super chatty, and sometimes kind of squeaky like a mouse in her reactions to things. Animated and kind of easily surprised. Then in the morning if you catch her when she's grumpy, it's funny to hear her complaints as you're just chilling in the kitchen, stirring milk in your coffee. She wooshes in frazzled, grumbling about something that woke her up too early (sometimes accidentally in another language -- she speaks a few), and you just smile and stand there listening. She's then gone as fast as she came in without you having to say anything. I like her energy :)

Anyway, back to walking down Lexington (me tip-toeing around puddles in my sparkley suede flats -- previously thinking the warmer weather could be safely enjoyed)... Kate took us to a puppy store ^_^

And so I spent the first hour of my afternoon... playing with puppies -- clearly starting the first day of the new year on the right foot.

Following this, we walked all the way down to midtown to a beads store -- that's what she meant by "pearl and stone."
Bought some silver sequence to make a headband while Kate picked out some pieces for a calendar she's putting together. Got coffee and a donut after, while walking back up north, and danced around Christmas trees posing for pictures. Silly. Entirely. But it was such a nice, nice day. Haven't found anyone yet here I can hang out with all day long and still enjoy their company. Nice.

And so,
If after finishing my breakfast today someone asked me if I wanted to go out to play with puppies, rummage around a bead store (one of my favorite places), and take an incredibly long walk around the city with great coffee and a donut...
I would have thought it was something I planned and scheduled myself to do, as my perfect day.
2011 is already feelin' pretty good.
