The day of the entrada, another parade of a completely different type. It started at 9 in the morning, with over a hundred different dance groups representing all the different parts of bolivia. All the groups had different costumbes, elaborate with sequeins, bells, wooden platform shoes, crazy masks of old men with long white hair, hairdresses made from huge feathers, some 10 feet high in the air. Absoluetly incredible. We didnt get there until 3:30 and they were going strong till 11 in the night. The huge crowds of people and insane amounts of beer being sold. I abstained because of the toilet consequence. The day before at a similar parade I had used the public bathroom and sworn I would avoid it at all costs. Of course you would have a line in a womens bathroom, but maybe cultural factors impede this because it comes down to who can push harder to the front. One lady pushed by me so that she could stand next to the stalls and urinate sqatting on the floor, afterwards using the flush water to splash it around. So after this fun experience, I went the next day not drinking anything for 9 hours. I had just as much fun without the alcohol, and cleaner shoes than the others.

Hi Katie, I laughed as I read your latest entry. It is fun to follow your journey. It was also great to receive your email. Did you hear back from the organization where you are wanting to volunteer? It is awesome to know you are where God wants you to be. And we are excited for you that you have extended your stay. We will be in prayer with you that God gives you the strength, wisdom and guidance that you need each day.
Hans and Taimi came here for Labor Day weekend. We had a great time. They were worked pretty hard on Sunday. Chris sold his home so we moved him. Packing him up from a house was a big job. He has only lived there 3 years but with boxing things, moving furnit, clothes, everything, and then cleaning, it took 6 of us 13 hours!! Taimi and I got to know each other pretty well in the kitchen! Chris has his first 3 homes that he has built on the Parade of Homes this weekend. So he is busy having finishing things done, sod laid, houses cleaned etc. Then 2 nights ago he called that Moorhead was getting so much rain that 1 of his rentals and 1 of his new homes were getting wet. He and Nils baled water out of an egress window well til midnight. They are both doing well though. Chris is staying with Nils in the dorm for a week because the house he is moving into is on the Parade of Homes.
This is Taimi's first week in her kindergarten job. She will be a wonderful teacher, but it will be nice when this first week is behind her. Hans has a new job too. Tom is in Pennsylvania and I just started school this week with first graders.
I have a Habitat meeting I need to get to but I wanted to send greetings to you from all of us. Love Barb (and Tom)
