Well, this morning I went to the moon. Okay well not obviously the real moon but the place was bizarre and is one of the national parks for how interesting the rock formations are. I paid the two dollar admission fee and walked the trail through these giant stalagtites on a tiny dirt trail with my tour guide. Free coca tea after the hike but I chose water. At 13000 feet it is windy and dry and chilly.
I was taken there on a tourist bus that traversed the entire city of la paz and it only took four hours. This is a huge double decker bus and I am on the top in the very front and we are going through the smallest streets, coblestone, with electrical lines and trees occasionally hitting all the seat backs. Did I mention I am the only person on the bus for half the time. The driving is insane, stop lights are considered but the green is anticipated and if no one is going it appears to be free game. There are policemen on every corner most have some kind of weapon, machine guns are common, they are trying to aid the traffic lights in creating order but its pretty much maddness. Eventually we went to a place where you could look at the city from above. Mt Illimani is usually in view. There is color everywhere from the imported eucalyptus trees, to the huge markets, venders on the street every 2 feet, bright colors worn by the cholos and children.
I am extremely happy to be here.
